Czech Language and Culture (KCJ/0CEER)

The Czech Language and Culture course (KCJ/0CEER), which takes the form of practical tuition, acquaints international students (non-native speakers of Czech who have no experience with the Czech language) with the basics of the Czech language, Czech history, culture, and study system.

During language lessons, attention is focused on basic grammar, phrases, specific features of Czech orthography, pronunciation and vocabulary, and on specific issues concerning the orientation in the Czech Republic (signs, menus, timetables, etc.).

The course also covers topics from Czech history and culture; attention focuses on the way of life in the Czech Republic and in Ostrava as well.

Teaching is both in English and Czech (the latter is mostly used in language practice lessons).

A mandatory part of the course is also geogame, which aims to get to know the city of Ostrava.

The course will take place in the Welcome Centre, Mlýnská Street, on February 5th–7th, 2024. Students will be divided into five groups.

The application process for the 2024 spring semester will be open between 21st January and 1st February 2024.
