Čeština pro cizince (300 hodin) / Czech for Foreigners (300 Hours)
Course description
The program is designed as a preparatory course for study at public universities, especially at the University of Ostrava, and is also intended for others interested in Czech as a foreign language. Teaching will be focused on the versatile acquisition of language resources (sound and graphics, vocabulary and grammar; phonetic exercises – pronunciation of specific Czech sounds; grammar in a comparative aspect – interference effects; acquisition and expansion of active and passive vocabulary, professional vocabulary and academic communication), comprehensive development of receptive and productive speech skills for communication in formal and informal environments (listening, reading, oral and written expression) and to acquaint students with the cultural, social and historical realities of the Czech Republic).
It is a two-semester full-time course (September 2021 – May 2022), a total of 300 teaching hours.

Conditions
Knowledge of Czech at the A1 level; knowledge of English at the B1 level (mediation language).
The applicant must have knowledge of the Czech language at a level corresponding to category A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The applicant must also be able to communicate in English at the B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) – English serves as a mediation language only for explaining complicated topics; however, the course is taught only in the Czech language.
The candidate should therefore be able to communicate in Czech in simple, often recurring situations with a predictable exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. Vocabulary should cover basic conversational topics such as family, hobbies, food, shopping, travel, study, etc. The candidate must be able to introduce himself and his family in Czech, describe his interests, previous studies, explain motivation to study, etc. In addition to spoken communication must the candidate is also able to write short simple texts in Czech such as a simple personal letter (e-mail), message, etc.

Visa
It is an intensive two-semester course at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava, so the applicant can apply for a study visa (long-term stay for the purpose of study).
